Capt. Daniel & Family

Captain Daniel: Captain Daniel Donich came to Homer from Federal Way, Washington in 1988 because, as he put it, the fish to person ratio was right. While growing up in the Northwest Daniel started his illustrious fishing career with his first boat "the sieve" (a 6 foot wood dingy). At the age of 10 he started fishing the waters of Puget Sound. Daniel has since become a recognized leader in developing (and teaching) new techniques for year round controlled depth fishing.  Fishing is definitely Daniel's passion and there's no bigger optimist.

Family: After many years of bachelorhood Daniel met his match.  I’m Chris, Daniel's wife, and I'll most likely be the person that's going to answer the phone when you call about fishing. I'm an ex-charter and Commercial fishing deckhand turned mom and office gal.  After commercial fishing for so many years I still don’t understand the logic in putting down a single hook to catch a fish when it makes so much more sense to throw out a net and catch a bunch of fish at one time.  I also chartered for a couple of years so I got my fill of one-at-a-time fishing. 

 We’ve got 2 sons that are growing up too quickly.  Wylie, named after the Wylie King Salmon, is our eldest son born during the second run of spawners in July of 1996. Bryce, meaning quick moving, is our youngest and born in November of 1997.  There’s never any question of what we’re going to do as a family outing if the weather is nice.  Both boys and especially Bryce has inherited that “got to go fishing gene”.  If Daniel doesn’t get out on the water regularly he says his scales are starting to dry up. I was honestly surprised when our boys weren’t born with scales and tails.
