Prices and Booking

These prices include tackle, bait, fileting and bagging of your catch, 7.85% sales tax on the boat and 3% sales tax on lodging. Our charter rates reflect the cost for marine fuel, which is our largest expense, at the time rates are set. However, due to the volatile and uncertain nature of fuel prices, Daniel’s Guide Service reserves the right to add a fuel surcharge to our trip rates. See below for fuel surcharge details.

Tipping Etiquette

We are frequently asked by customers: What is considered a good tip? and Who do I tip?
On THE OPTIMIST, the Captain and the Deckhand split gratuities 50/50, so you may tip either one and not feel like any one is being left out.
Usually, it is customary to follow the same standards used in many other tipping situations. Much like restaurant servers, a good rule of thumb is 10 to 20 percent for good service. Keep in mind your guide and deckhand have just spent 8 to 10 hours with you, giving you their undivided attention in an effort to make your day successful.
Tips are not mandatory but, they are very much appreciated!

Fuel Surcharge

A fuel surcharge would only be applied in the event of soaring fuel prices, based on the price of fuel in Homer at the time of your charter. The surcharge, if necessary, would be assessed at check-in. Should the price of marine fuel remain under $6.00 per gallon there will be no fuel surcharge.
This will ensure that we are able to take you to the best fishing grounds without regard for the cost of fuel or how far we must travel. Therefore, you can feel confident that, as always, we will provide you the ultimate fishing experience. We refuse to limit the range of our trips in order to save fuel to mitigate high prices.
